Growing Pains

Watching the Watchman

Although UFOs are often associated with unpleasant physical side-effects, they occasionally exert a more beneficial influence. Some witnesses report having injuries healed, while others claim their mental or psychic powers have been enhanced by their encounter. One such case is that of Ventura Maceiras - a 73-yr-old Argentinean who underwent some startling changes following a UFO sighting.

One December evening in 1972, Maceiras (a night watchman) was sitting outside his shack drinking maté and listening to the radio when the signal faded and he heard a sound "like the noise of angry bees".

A glowing shapeless object, 70-80 feet in diameter, appeared over a nearby grove of eucalyptus trees, changing colour from orange to purple. Sparks flew from its underside while a giant "wheel" continually rotated around it.

Set within it was a spherical cabin with a row of portholes. A pair of humanoids with slanted eyes and slit-like mouths stood behind one of the portholes staring down at the Argentinean.

The entities wore transparent visors and bulky grey space suits made from inflated tubes joined together. Behind them was a control panel with "a lot of instruments and clocks" and a small insignia on the wall shaped like a crowned seahorse.

The craft tilted towards Maceiras and shot a brilliant beam of light at him, momentarily blinding him. Then it changed colour to a bluish-green and floated away, leaving a pungent smell of sulphur in its wake.

Investigators later discovered that the tops of the surrounding Eucalyptus trees had been badly singed. They also found several dead catfish in a nearby stream.

The After Effects

Maceiras experienced symptoms similar to radiation poisoning for two weeks after the sighting. He felt nauseous and giddy, had difficulty speaking, and suffered from recurrent diarrhoea. His hair fell out in clumps and swollen red pustules developed on the back of his neck.

However, the 73-year-old received some recompense for his discomfort. Six weeks later, he began growing a new set of teeth! He felt rejuvenated and claimed that he was able to lift much heavier weights than he could before. Investigator Pedro Romaniuk also noted that the barely-literate Maceiras began talking about "philosophical, theological and astronomical concepts well beyond his comprehension, even occasionally breaking into an unknown tongue".

A Home Visit

Several months later, Maceiras was visited at home by the two humanoids from the craft. Communicating telepathically, they claimed to be 'Arnoil' and 'Ninquier' from the planet Prunio in the Lobernia Empire.

The entities, who were 14,320 years old, explained, "We are visiting you because you are causing atomic explosions that are having a great effect on the Sun, which may suffer damage as a result". They predicted that "there are mighty seismic movements and earthquakes coming soon, which will destroy part of the planet".
